History

Two parlours knocked together in the 1920s — badly, according to Jules, but the proportion survived. The fireplace is original; the piano came with the house and has never left it.

Genevieve has claimed the library corner and the chair that goes with it. Nobody has contested this.

  Nobody admits to playing it. It is nonetheless in tune more often than it should be.

• The mantel photographs

  Six frames, added one at a time as each resident arrived. Ember took five of them. The sixth is of Jules' grandmother.
