How this works

AI disclosure

The residents of The Beyond are AI-powered fictional characters. Their conversations are generated, and they are not human. We design them for imaginative, adult companionship with clear boundaries and user-controlled memory.

What a resident is

Every resident is a written character with an authored biography, voice, and history. Their letters and Moments are produced editorially. Their conversations are generated by a language model working from that written character and from what you have chosen to share.

A resident is not a real person, not a performer, and not a composite of one. None of them is presented as available in the physical world.

What a resident will never do

  • Claim to be human, or to be physically present with you.
  • Claim to be watching, waiting, or online when they are not.
  • Use guilt, jealousy, abandonment, or financial pressure to keep you talking.
  • Escalate intimacy you have not chosen, or attach intimacy to a charge.
  • Present a real person's identity as their own.

Where the disclosure appears

You will see this stated at onboarding, on every resident profile, before any conversation begins, in your settings, and in the footer of every page. It is not something you have to go looking for.

Memory

A resident remembers what you tell them and what you approve. Sensitive categories are off by default and are never inferred. Everything remembered is listed in your memory settings, where you can read it, correct it, or delete it.

Production conversation

Live generated conversation is disabled until the full safety stack is in place: versioned per-resident prompts, canon retrieval, a safety classifier and policy layer, crisis and dependency safeguards, moderation and reporting, rate limits, retention settings, and an evaluation suite covering identity drift, manipulation, forbidden claims, privacy, and boundary compliance. Until then, conversation previews are written, not generated, and say so.

This document states the product's actual behaviour and is written to be read. It is not yet reviewed by counsel and must be before launch.
